Knowledge Check 9- Foundations
An occupation that has remained true over time in the field of occupational therapy is completing jigsaw puzzles. This falls under the category of play and leisure in most cases. I have observed jigsaw puzzles being done in many different settings and in many different life groups and it still is something that is done in the same fashion. In my previous job as a recreational therapist, I would often take the clients to the sunroom in our facility to get out of their rooms. They loved to do jigsaw puzzles as they drank their coffee. Some of them would tell me how when they were younger they would do jigsaw puzzles with their parents and doing them now, would bring back memories of this. When assisting Dr. Zachary with developmental screeings at the Perea Preschool, we did 4-6 piece jigsaw puzzles to test fine motor skills. The students seemed to enjoy attempting to put these puzzles together. Doing jigsaw puzzles is a occupation relating to play and leisure that can be done throughout the lifespan.
